S.R. 0033, Section 002 (Northern Connector), Lower Saucon and Bethlehem Townships, Northampton County, PA (PennDOT)

SITE-BLAUVELT Engineers is presently providing construction inspection services to PennDOT during the completion of this $33 million section of the Route 33 Extension project which involves the construction of an approximately 2.9 mile stretch of new, four-lane limited-access divided highway through farmland and open fields, the realignment of two roadways in the project area, and the construction of two farm access roads. Along the route will be constructed two (2) major interchanges and a park-and-ride facility that will be located adjacent to the northwest corner of a new full diamond interchange. The typical pavement section for S.R. 0033 on new alignment consists of plain cement concrete pavement, RPS, and concrete shoulders of Type 1 or Type 2. A grass median (with concrete glare screen in areas 40' in width) will separate the roadway. The three new bridges being constructed along the route will incorporate prestressed concrete I-beams and steel plate girders. Additional work involves substantial erosion and sediment pollution control items, as well as signage, lighting, excavation and embankment, eight (8) new detention/sediment basins, building demolition, sound barrier erection, pavement marking and signing, concrete median barrier (34" single-face concrete barrier, and glare screen), plain cement mountable curb, cement concrete sidewalks, guiderail, and various RCCP (18" to 48") and inlet structures.
